Cardano is a proof-of-stake blockchain and a decentralized application development platform with a multi-asset ledger and verifiable smart contracts. It’s based on peer-reviewed mathematical and game theory research. The project was launched in 2017 with a focus on scalability, sustainability, and compatibility of its products. Cardano aims to overcome the obstacles that other platforms face (such as slow transactions and high fees).

Cardano was developed by IOHK (Inputs, Outputs, Hong Kong) and Charles Hoskinson, a mathematician and one of Ethereum’s founders. Further development of the project is held by Cardano Foundation, IOHK, and Emurgo. The global goal of Cardano is to make DeFi available in some of the poorest regions of the globe.

Solana is a layer-1 blockchain network created in 2017. Founders aimed to enhance the speed and scalability of the blockchain avoiding negative consequences for its security and decentralization. Today, Solana is one of the swiftest blockchains out there, with the capacity to handle 60 000 transactions per second (for example, Visa’s capacity is 65 000 TPS). Such a speed is achieved due to the unique Proof of History (PoH) consensus algorithm, which functions as a decentralized watch intended to reduce the sync time on the blockchain.

Solana uses the Turbine protocol. According to the Turbine algorithms, every node interacts only with neighboring nodes instead of approaching all devices in the network. Developers of Solana predict that the network will be able to handle as much as 710 000 TPS in the near future.

SOL is a cryptocurrency native to the Solana blockchain. It is believed to have the potential to replace Ethereum due to Solana’s scalability and speed. During the last year, the price of SOL has grown by 8000%. It is caused by both advantages of the project as well as by globally increasing interest in crypto and DeFi.
